Goodbye Grogu, hello Ewoks

Six big takeaways from the latest LEGO Star Wars 2027 rumours

We now have our first idea of what to expect from LEGO Star Wars in 2027, so here are six key takeaways that jump out from this list of rumoured sets.

The initial roster of LEGO Star Wars January 2027 sets includes an eight-strong assortment of playsets, ships, a Microfighter, an up-scaled minifigure and more, and between them all there’s plenty to understand about the wider state of the LEGO Star Wars theme (assuming they pan out as expected).

Check out the table below for the full list, then keep scrolling for our major takeaways from this wave.

LEGO Star Wars 2027 sets

LEGO set Price Pieces Release date
75463 X-wing Microfighter $14.99 TBC Jan 2027
75464 Anakin’s Starfighter $29.99 TBC Jan 2027
75466 Darth Vader Art $59.99 TBC Jan 2027
75470 Mustafar Duel $39.99 TBC Jan 2027
75476 Endor Battle Pack $29.99 TBC Jan 2027
75478 Y-wing $79.99 TBC Jan 2027
75480 Bespin Duel $79.99 TBC Jan 2027
75482 Up-Scaled Pilot Luke Minifigure $99.99 TBC Jan 2027

It’s a 2020 throwback

LEGO Star Wars 75294 Bespin Duel featured

No fewer than three of these eight sets seem to be revisiting or otherwise building on LEGO Star Wars models last seen in 2020. 75470 Mustafar Duel sounds like an updated version of 75269 Duel on Mustafar; 75480 Bespin Duel is hopefully a bigger and wider-release version of the limited-edition 75294 Bespin Duel; and 75466 Darth Vader Art has overtones (in name alone) of 31200 Star Wars The Sith.

A seven-year stretch between those sets – the duels in particular – makes them well-timed for new versions, even while there are much older Star Wars staples still patiently waiting to hop back on the LEGO conveyor belt. (Our last B-wing was in 2014, let’s not forget.) After all, Mustafar and Bespin are the locations of the franchise’s two most iconic lightsaber duels…

SMART Play? No thanks

75421_Lifestyle_cons_2

You know what’s not on this list? Any LEGO Star Wars SMART Play sets. That’s good news for anyone hoping the tech-fuelled range wouldn’t cannibalise much more of the theme’s portfolio in 2027, as it seemingly has done in 2026, although given this is only a first list of models for January there’s still time yet. But then it doesn’t look like the initial SMART Play wave has sold particularly well by all accounts, so…

Grogu fever is finished…

The other big absence on this list is anything hooked to The Mandalorian and Grogu. Instead, the January 2027 LEGO Star Wars wave is said to be drawing entirely from the prequel and original trilogies, with perhaps the sole exception of 75464 Anakin’s Starfighter, which seems likely to take inspiration from The Clone Wars. Considering the sheer number of Mando & Grogu sets in 2026, that’s probably for the best.

…but Darth Vader fever will never end

If the LEGO Star Wars team has a new concept to try out, it seems painfully obvious at this point that there’s only one real contender for the first iteration. The Bust Collection has started with Darth Vader, the first up-scaled LEGO Star Wars minifigure is Darth Vader, and now 75466 Darth Vader Art seems to be introducing yet another new style of set. It’s all Vader, all the time.

That Ewok Village rumour just got a bit tastier

LEGO Star Wars 10236 Ewok Village2013's 10236 Ewok Village.

A mysterious list of rumoured LEGO Star Wars sets with no release date emerged earlier this year, and whispers across the web are that they’re actually 2027 releases. Among those is a new $179.99 Ewok Village, which would pair very nicely with the freshly-rumoured 75476 Endor Battle Pack. All we’d need then is a new Endor Bunker – another long-overdue remake, given the last one hit shelves in 2009.

It might be time to cash in on Cloud City

LEGO Star Wars 75222 Betrayal at Cloud City (38)

Sitting on a big pile of 75222 Betrayal at Cloud City sets? It might be time to think about selling up, as its exclusive Han Solo, Lando Calrissian and Princess Leia minifigures (which fetch hundreds alone on the aftermarket) may be about to plummet in value. There’s no word yet on who could be included in 75480 Bespin Duel, but at $79.99 it’s hard to imagine it will only be Luke Skywalker and Darth Vader…
