The yellow paint job on the new Razor Crest is more than just a makeover, consequently making the LEGO Star Wars set just as factory-fresh.
The LEGO Group's recent May the 4th livestream featured several segments with Doug Chiang, VP and Executive Creative Director at Lucasfilm, including an explanation of why the new Razor Crest and
"For our next-generation of the Razor Crest – the one we saw in the original series – had hints of the yellow in there," Doug explained. "It was very much like what the Mandalorian did to the N-1, where he stripped it all away and stripped away some of the paint, basically hot-rodding it himself.
"The new version is actually the pristine version, off the factory floor. So this [gestures to LEGO set] is what it would kind of look like straight off the assembly line with the proper paint markings in here. We stayed true to the patterning so that these stripes actually align with the original razor crest, but now we're seeing it complete."

It also explains why the stripes on the retired minifigure-scale Razor Crest model were brown rather than yellow. While inaccurate to the source material, the LEGO Star Wars team can now say that the paint has weathered and faded over time.
